Varsity Boys Basketball (9-10)
Coach David Blumenthal and captains Ahmed Hassan and Ethan Camps led the boys to a strong 9-10 season. The Bulldogs had a strong win against Thomas Wootton High School (68-51) and a fantastic regional quarterfinal win against Quince Orchard High School (56-46), but recently finished the postseason with a loss to Whitman High School (47-48). Standout performances from the Bulldogs include Hassan’s 26 points against Clarksburg High School, Khaydar Gilmetdinov’s 23 points and 10 rebounds during the Wootton game, and Isaac Niles with 29 points during the Quince Orchard game.
Varsity Girls Basketball (18-2)
Coach McMahon led the girls to an outstanding 18-2 season, with an overall theme of development, as it is an underclassman-heavy team. Notable players include point guard Ashley King, guard Maria Knowlton, and forwards Hannah Corkey and captain Mena Hemphill. The Bulldogs had strong wins against Walter Johnson High School (57-46) and a thriller game against Clarksburg High School (54-50).
Varsity Wrestling (11-1), postseason (2-1)
Coaches Timothy Lowe and Mike Reish led the Bulldogs to a strong 10-2 season, taking the team far in the postseason, reaching the regional finals, only to lose to Walt Whitman HS once more. At the MCPS Individual Country Tournament, the Bulldogs had a ton of success, with captains Mason Hu, Tommy Trenkamp and Noah Zhang taking home second, third and fourth place, respectively, in their weight classes.
Swim & Dive (Boys) (10-1)
Coach Dennis Witol led the boys in swimming events to win multiple individual Region Championships during the 4A North Region Championships, including Charlie Begin, who won in 100-yard backstroke, Douglas Sims, who won in 200-yard freestyle, and the boys relay teams who won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The boys’ team overall finishes second, coming close to winning a State title. At States, Begin won a title in 100 yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle, Maximus Devinney won the 100-yard freestyle, and the boys relay team again won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Swim & Dive (Girls) (11-0)
This year marked a historic year for the Bulldogs as the girls’ team won the Metro meet for the first time since 2015. The girls then went on to defeat Walter Johnson High School at the 4A North Region Championships, capturing their first region championship title in 10 years as well. At championships, senior captain Catherine Bu won the 100-yard breaststroke, Anika Cai won the 50-yard freestyle, and the girls relay teams won the 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. At States, the girls placed first among all other girls teams, as well as winning individual events, including freshman Ainsley Bell’s 200-yard Individual Medley (IM), Catherine Bu’s 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle, and the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Indoor Track & Field
Coaches Scott Silverstein and Paul Jacobson led the Indoor Track team to resounding success at State Championships on Feb. 17-18, having the boys’ team take home the second-place trophy. Notable performances on the field from Jacob Breitstein, who won first place in boys shot put with a throw of 17.06 meters, Bakari Taylor, who won first place in boys high jump with a vertical distance of 2.06 meters and Kylee Kreafle, who won second place in girls high jump with a vertical distance of 1.63 meters.
As for the track, the Bulldogs also won second place in the boys 4×200 relay with a time of 1:32.47, just 0.38 seconds behind Montgomery Blair High School’s winning time. Santiago Gutierrez took home second place in the boys’ 3200m with a time of 9:39.49. Overall, the Bulldogs competed at a high level at Counties and States, setting the team up for continued success in the Outdoor Track spring season.
Bocce
Coach Diana Carter led the Bulldogs through a strong season. Captains Grayson Thai and Felicity Spivak set the tone for the team, both in performance and in guiding their teammates throughout the year. The Bulldogs carried this momentum into the postseason, winning the MCPS County Championship and earning an impressive fourth-place finish at the Maryland 4A State Meet.
Poms
The Poms team under Coach Meredith Halperin finished strong with a second-place title in Division 2 at the MCPS County Championships. The competition was held at Montgomery Blair High School, with Wheaton High School just outdoing the Bulldogs and Seneca Valley High School in third. The success of the season highlights the team’s improvement and coordination, especially given numerous public-facing appearances at pep rallies and other such school-sponsored events.
