People tend to reminisce on the 2000s: the aesthetic, the music, the fashion, the pop culture. In the 2000s, the digital era had just begun, with maximalist technology and a fresh new millennium. The romanticization of this era has left modern consumers of music missing these aspects of that time. Plaid skirts, cheetah print accessories, overly sharpened music videos, niche references to older music present in her music and brand, PinkPantheress has taken her love for the Young 2000s (Y2K) aesthetic to the absolute max. Her new mixtape album “Fancy Some More?” has brought the Y2K vision into real life.
PinkPantheress is a singer-songwriter and producer from England and is well known for her catchy music, commitment to the Y2K aesthetic and stunning talent in arranging music behind the scenes. Earlier this year, PinkPantheress released the nine-track album “Fancy That” in May. This album was very successful, and the songs “Illegal” and “Tonight” were featured in viral social media trends and became hit songs for the artist. Expanding her previous album, PinkPantheress released her remix album “Fancy Some More?” on October 10, 2025, which features various new renditions of the songs from the prior album, over 25 artists and 31 tracks.
The mixtape opens with the track “Illegal + Anitta,” featuring verses from Anitta, a Brazilian artist. By including a Latin American artist, PinkPantheress has been able to reach an even more global audience in regions she has not explored before. This version of “Illegal” is very similar to the original 2-step beat still present in the song, but Anitta adds a new flavor to the track with her lines in Portuguese and her captivating voice.
“Illegal + SEVENTEEN” also opens the door for PinkPantheress to globalize her music, as SEVENTEEN is a K-pop boy group from South Korea. Their take on “Illegal” includes a new beat, and on top of the 2-step rhythm, they have incorporated a blend of UK garage and dance-pop as well. Three members – Mingyu, The8 and Vernon – of the boy group contribute their distinctive colors to the song, using autotune on their vocals as a fun stylistic choice.
“Girl Like Me + Kaytranada” is a more graceful interpretation of the original song, in which the original was more upbeat and lively. This variant has a more relaxed beat as the featured artist, Kaytranada, is also a producer and artist known for his R&B and house style songs. PinkPantheress has actually been featured on Kaytranada’s mixtape album “TIMELESS” in 2024. Mixtape albums that include remixes with the appearance of different artists offer an exciting opportunity for collaboration in the industry.
“Tonight + JADE” presents the listener with the familiar bouncy beat that was in the original version. It has a groovy bassline, and JADE showcases flirty vocals to go along with the playful nature of the track. JADE, another artist from England and a former member of the popular British girl group Little Mix, broadens PinkPantheress’s fanbase by attracting former fans of the group.
“Stateside + Zara Larsson” is a very innovative edition of the original track. It takes the listener on a journey all the way back to the 2000s with its electronic soundscape, with punchy videogame-esque elements. Zara Larsson is a pop sensation from Sweden, and she elevates the song to the next level with her powerful vocals. Larsson sings the new lyrics “Schedule ain’t been loose for a minute /Yeah, I’m that girl, I’ve been it” exuding confidence. This track could definitely satisfy WCHS students who are looking forward to rising pop stars.
“Romeo + Ravyn Lenae” encompasses a funky atmosphere with its bold synths. Ravyn Lenae, another artist who sprang to fame this year, adds a soulful tone to the track with her ethereal vocals. Sung by Lenae, the added lyrics “Step two, I wrote your name across my heart /Mm, you’re my Romeo” give the song a very romantic feel as it portrays the singer giving her all to a boy. The song references the William Shakespeare play, “Romeo and Juliet”, which adds to PinkPantheress’s English identity in her music.
As a relatively new artist, PinkPantheress has so much in store for her music career. It is admirable how she constantly pays homage to the artists that came before her, while also respecting the artists she has as peers in the industry. In “Fancy Some More?”, she has done exactly that. So many artists have contributed to this project, which has graced her discography with a multitude of impeccable songs. With the number of artists that are present in this album, there is sure to be a track that resonates with a WCHS student.
