After coming in second and third places the past two years at the county championship, the CHS boys tennis team is eager to win it all this year.
“We have a good number of returning players and a good amount of improved players and new players,” head coach Benjamin Woods said.
CHS is returning all but one singles player. The likely singles players will be sophomores William Szamosszegi and Matthew Fine and juniors Michael Gauch and Kevin Chen.
“In order for us to win the county championship, we have to change our attitude,” Gauch said. “We have the team, we just have to believe that we can do it. Belief is the most important thing.”
Due to graduation, the team lost number one player Kevin Chu, who was the leader of the team.
According to senior Alex Narrow, losing Chu should not be a problem, because most of the team has been together for at least one season.
“We may not have Kevin,” Gauch said. “However, I think we have players who are willing to step it up and fill his role.”
With hopes of winning the county championship, the players are getting in the best possible shape.
“I train a lot, run a lot, and play every day for at least two hours,” Gauch said.
Last year, the only team CHS lost to was Wootton, its main rival.
According to Narrow, along with winning County’s, he wants to get revenge against Wootton.
“Through perseverance, sweat and tears, I am confident we will win the county Championship,” Narrow said.
