After a successful record season last year, the wrestling team is back and expects to be just as triumphant. Having lost only two seniors, the team will be experienced and skilled.
“[We] have a fairly experienced group of varsity wrestlers returning,” coach Michael Endler said. “We could have as many as seven seniors in the starting 14, so I expect to see some leaders emerge.”
This season the focus will be on improving overall team success, instead of just individual accomplishments. The major goals are to improve the record and place higher in tournaments.
“[Our strategy for success is] a lot of hard work,” Endler said.
Hard work will be necessary as the wrestling team will participate in eight head-to-head meets and three tri-team meets. They will also compete in three tournaments, one of which will be hosted by CHS.
“We host the Bulldog Duals Tournament [and] 16 teams will be here for that,” Endler said.
Players to watch include seniors Colin Whitaker and Saam Tashayyod, juniors Wesley Deaver and Chris Lee and sophomore Jake Sutton.
“We’ve got a group of really entertaining wrestlers to watch,” Tashayyod said.
