Last year, boys and girls swimming and the dive team came in first place at Metros, where CHS competed against a number of public and private schools. The team hopes for another championship season this year though the competition may be difficult.
“The Whitman meet is going to be big this year because their upcoming freshman are really good,” sophomore Natalya Ares said. “It’s going to be hard for us.”
According to Ares, only a few seniors left the relay team so it will continue to be successful. Both swimming and diving will compete in five dual meets, not including relays, Divisionals, Counties and Metros.
“We expect to be strong this year,” senior captain Jenny Erickson said. “We’re going to try to be very spirited and have a lot of fun.”
Athletes to watch include senior captains Alicia Watkins and Chris Verboncoeur as well as freshman Austin Cole.
“Swim meets are so intense,” Ares said. “It’s really fun to see who wins by fingertips.”
