Whether you like to celebrate Halloween by going trick or treating, watching fall movies or going to Halloween parties, you can find a bowl of Halloween candy with festive wrappers and fan favorites. Some prefer chocolate like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Milky Way, Snickers or Twix, while others go for gummies like Sour Patch Kids, Swedish Fish, Skittles or Airheads. So what makes these candies so loved?
Snickers
Snickers have always been a popular choice, with its sweet caramel, fluffy marshmallow and crunchy peanuts. However, this candy has one fatal flaw: nut allergies. Despite this, it can be found in almost every candy bowl.
Twix
Twix is a fan favorite for the Observer staff. The stretchy caramel layer with crunchy cookie coated in a thin layer of milk chocolate is what really sets Twix apart from other chocolate bars. The real question is not whether Twix is popular but rather, Right or Left?
Milky Way
Milky Way bars are the nut allergy-friendly version of a Snickers bar. They contain the same marshmallow and caramel dipped in milk chocolate but lack the peanut component. Despite its name being out of this world, Milky Ways are plain in nature and are considered by some as overrated.
Reese’s
While Reese’s peanut butter cups are the most popular Halloween candy of the Reese’s products, the brand also now makes a wide variety of other peanut butter candies, including Reese’s pieces, a M&M spin off and Reese’s take 5 featuring pretzels, caramel, peanuts and more. This is the most popular chocolate candy among the Observer staff. Reese’s chocolates are extra fun for the holidays with pumpkin, bat and skeleton-shaped chocolates.
Swedish Fish
Swedish Fish are a classic Halloween candy with a recognizable flavor mix of cherry. While this is an extremely popular gummy candy, it often receives mixed opinions on its waxy taste and texture.
Sour Patch Kids
Sour Patch Kids are the Observer staff’s most loved fruity Halloween candy. Sour Patch Kids are similar to Swedish Fish in texture but have four different flavors and colors covered in sour powder.
Airheads
Airheads are often left to the side in Halloween candy bowls, despite their wide array of flavours and types. However, among Observer staff members, this is the second most popular fruity candy.
Skittles
Skittles are small, bite-sized, multicolored and multiflavored candies that often can be hard to chew. They come in a rainbow of exciting colors with corresponding flavors. Surprisingly, this is the third most popular fruity candy among Observer staff members.
As Halloween inches closer, more and more stores’ candy stock will begin to deplete, as people start to pick their favorite candy bundles off the shelves. Students and teachers alike will start to look for their Halloween costumes and make spooky plans. No matter what plans fill Halloween each year, delicious candy is a staple.
