Neighborhoods vie for top trick-or-treat spot

It is 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 and you have your fresh costume ready to go. You are about to leave your house, pillowcase in hand, when you realize that you do not know to trick-or-treat.

The neighborhoods students think are the best include Avenel, Clagett Farms and Potomac Regency. These locations are prime for any student looking for the ultimate trick-or-treating adventure.

Avenel

“Avenel is clearly the best place to go trick-or-treating because the neighborhood is filled with decorated houses,” freshman Dani Green said. “We are known for being spirited and giving the best candy.”

Although she makes a valid statement, Avenel is sometimes too overcrowded with younger kids, which causes all of the good candy to be consumed earlier than any of the other neighborhoods.

Even with its overabundance of munchkins, Avenel is still a solid neighborhood that should be considered by any trick-or-treater. It earns three out of five stars.

Clagett Farm

“Clagett Farms is the best,” sophomore Connor Maio said. “It is the top place for teens to go because it is just small enough so that you do not waste your entire night and you still have time to have a party with your friends.”

Clagett Farms small size can be a negative also since trick-or-treaters do not get as much candy as they would in other neighborhoods.

This is only a minor setback though, which gives this neighborhood a highly sought after four out of five stars.

Fox Hills

This often-overlooked neighborhood packs an unexpected punch.

“[Fox Hills] is the best because the neighbors are friendly when they greet you at the door,” sophomore Felipe Ross said. “They give you excellent candy and the townhouses provide for a close walk between houses.”

Although his points are all accurate, Fox Hills is not well-lit up at night, which causes the townhouses’ stairs to be a major threat to the safety of all trick-or-treaters.

The positives outweigh the negatives because the townhouses speed up the rate of trick-or-treating time. Overall, Fox Hills earns a well-deserved three and a half stars out of five.
