With school well under way, students’ stress levels are at an all-time high, leading to fatigue and breakouts. While it is difficult to get enough hours of sleep and combat acne, it is not impossible, thanks to rice water.
According to organicfacts.net, a health and food website, there are many benefits to using rice water. For example, ingesting rice water provides instant energy, regulates bowel movements, and lowers blood pressure, and provides an essential source of vitamin B1.
Rice water is not a new health fad; in fact, it has been around for many centuries, used mainly in Asia by Japanese geishas and ethnic Yao Chinese women.
According to beauty website, hairbuddha.com, rice water, especially fermented rice water, is rich in antioxidants, minerals, B vitamins, and pitera, a substance produced during the fermentation process. Pitera is identified as an anti-aging elixir because of its ability to promote cell regeneration.
In terms of improving CHS students’ skin and stress levels, many students have heard and are willing to try out rice water.
Since rice is sold in many supermarkets here in the U.S., it is possible to make rice water effortlessly at home. It is always best to use rice that has not been chemically dyed and processed, such as white rice, in order to achieve the best results. Below is the basic recipe for CHS students to try:
Basic Rice Water Recipe
½ cup uncooked rice 2 cups water
1 spoon/fork to stir
1 container to store the rice water
1) Using the bowl, rinse the rice to remove any impurities. Strain the dirty water.
2) Fill the rice with clean water until it is completely covered.
3) Let the rice soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Swirl it around with a spoon or fork until the water turns cloudy.
4) Strain out the rice water and pour into clean container. Rice water can be stored in the refrigerator and stays fresh for up to one week.
This recipe is only for basic rice water. Feel free to add lemon juice or essential oils to use as a toner or a conditioner.
