After placing third in States for the winter season, the track team is anticipating a strong spring season.

The team graduated several notable runners last year including Jennifer Maizlish and Alex Kim.

“We had over 200 students try out for the team,” coach Paul Jacobson said. “We’re hoping for a fresh group of sprinters.”

The Bulldogs suffered the injuries of seniors Taylor Caulk and Micah Phillips-Spencer during the winter.

“Now that some of the runners have recovered, we stand a very good chance of placing second in States,” Jacbobson said.

The team has been prepping for the season since early March.

“We have been doing a lot of fartleks, which alternates hard and slow running,” senior Will Conway said. “The team is very senior-heavy this year, but we’re looking to freshmen David Fitzgerald and Jake Smith to run varsity times.”

Spring track has more events than indoor track, including pole vaulting and discus.

“We have several great discuss throwers including seniors Nadim Elhage and Joey Kale,” Jacobson said.  “We have a great big team this year and should do very well.”

The Bulldogs first meet is at B-CC March 21.
