The Montgomery County Region of the Maryland Association of Student Councils, (MCR) held its monthly meeting on Oct. 29 with the primary focus being on reducing energy costs and increasing recycling efforts.

According to sophomore Hal Zeitlin who is the MCR rep for the Class of 2012, students and staff can help save energy by turning off computer monitors when they are not being used, making sure that lights are turned off when no one is in the room and by turning off unnecessary lights within the school.

Interested students can attend the next MCR meeting on Dec. 17, where they will be discussing federal, state and county nutritional guidelines, school cafeterias and the food they serve. Free transportation will be provided by MCPS to interested students. The buses will leave at 9:25 a.m. and return at about 1:30 p.m.
