Tuckerman passes available in October

New Tuckerman Lane parking passes will not be sold to students until Oct. 1 because the county is undergoing construction on the road.

Due to the construction, many students have had to find alternative places to park or to travel in order to get to school.

The road’s improvements also affect the school security guards daily routine, especially if students still decide to park on the street even with the ongoing construction.

“If a car parks on Tuckerman we have to call the county to get a tow truck,” security guard Chris Pucciarelli said. “[The car] is then towed away.”

The goal of the construction on Tuckerman Lane is pavement preservation.

“The treatment [Tuckerman Lane] is receiving will help to save the road before it reaches a point in its life cycle when it will require major rehabilitation at a much greater cost,” Department of Transportation Chief Keith Compton said.

Since the exact end date of the construction is unclear, passes will not be sold until the beginning of next month.

“The earliest [the construction] will be done is in two weeks,” Pucciarelli said.
