“All About Steve” not worth the ticket price

Usually we hear about the stalking of a celebrity or even just the Average Joe, and most of the times the stalker gets arrested, but for those people, stalking is just their way of life.

The Phil Trail-directed movie All About Steve portrays a lost crossword puzzle constructor’s journey as she follows her blind date through a series of events.

The film is full of animated music along with a couple of funny jokes here and there, but definitely not enough to carry the audiences’ attention throughout the movie.  The cast stars Sandra Bullock (The Proposal), Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), DJ Quall (Hustle and Flow), Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) and Ken Jeong (The Zookeeper).

Bullock plays the main character Mary Horowitz, who is a lost soul until both her parents and boss intervene and decide that she needs to start dating.  However, Horowitz is puzzled when her parents set her up on a blind date and when she forgets to cancel the date, she unwillingly prepares for a disastrous night.

When Horowitz meets her date, CCN cameraman Steve (Cooper), she immediately changes her mind and wants to woo him after seeing how good looking he is.

After one date, Mary is convinced that she has found the “one”.

Being a cameraman, Steve is called to his job during his date with Bullock and tells her that he needs to be in Boston but wishes that she could come with him.  Taking this as a sign, Horowitz follows Steve to Arizona where he is following the latest news of a hostage crisis.

The movie jump-starts at this point and the moviegoer connects to the film as Horowitz continues to believe that she and Steve still have a chance.  When Bullock is urged by Steve’s coworkers to never give up on him, she listens to them completely, and follows him to every one of his sites.

When Steve sees Mary at his many job sites the audience gets the sense that Steve thinks that Mary is a stalker while she believes they are an item.  The constant craziness of the movie keeps the attention of the viewer despite the fact that other aspects of the movie are not as pleasing.

Although the montages, action effects and the plot idea are high-quality, the acting and dialogue are not up to the standards of even an average movie.  The movie is beyond cheesy and extremely boring.

While Bullock and Cooper have been great in countless other movies, it is apparent in All About Steve, that they are not a good on-screen pair because the chemistry between them is nowhere to be found.

Unless you are in the mood for a tasteless movie, stay in and watch one of your favorites instead of wasting a good chunk of your time wishing that you could leave and get your $10.50 back.
